Pressure is created when the jar is filled and cools down. This pressure tightens the lid.

As I get older, my grip is not what it used to be. I regularly open a product that comes in large lid jars. I’ve found opening them difficult. I’ve tried a turning strap, but it can be awkward, even if successful.

I sometimes can open them by hitting the bottom of the jar. I also learned you should invert the jar first, and wait 10 seconds before hitting it. For the product I buy, this is successful 1 out of 10 times.

The way I have found still requires some force. It doesn’t require a twisting motion but a squeeze. The idea is to squeeze the edges of the lid with your palm heels. If you are successful, you will hear a quiet pop as it is released into the jar. This is the same as poking a hole in the lid or lifting it gently with a can opener.

My success rate with this squeezing technique is 100% so far.

I learnt this from Jordan Howlett in on one of his YouTube Shorts.

One thing I learnt recently was how to open a glass jar, the easy way.
